FILLERS

Some factors can cause the face to lose volume such as: genetics, ageing and other external factors. Dermal fillers can help add that volume and shape in areas where you would like to see a much more youthful look. Fillers are being continually advanced so that they are suitable for everyone. Most importantly, they are being made of safe ingredients which are advantageous for your skin as well. Fillers are able to uplift, volumise, revitalise and rejuvenate your look. So they can be used to treat hollowing, sagging, loss of structure, shape and definition. They are also effective at eliminating lines and wrinkles

DERMAL FILLER PROCEDURES

Various types of fillers are used depending on the desired outcome. Some have a thinner consistency which makes them a perfect candidate for shaping lips. Others are much thicker and ideal for mid and lower face.

Fillers contain various molecular weights and textures. Therefore, the application and use can be adapted to various areas and requirements to achieve the most natural-looking outcomes. They contain hyaluronic acid, which provide hydration to the skin. The levels of hyaluronic acids in the body go down with age, which causes early wrinkles, dehydrated skin and loss of volume.

LIP FILLERS

Lip fillers are ideal if you would like to augment, reshape or redefine your lips and their borders. You may be more suited to a lip lift if you have small lips, or you have a long distance between the bottom of your nose and your upper lip. There are various types of lip fillers, techniques and aesthetic options available. We carefully administer the filler to harmonise with your existing facial proportions. The ability to improve the appearance of the lips is diverse, from defining the border or the lips or enhancing the cupid’s bow, to subtly boosting their fullness.  It’s also important to remember that you may not achieve your desired look within one treatment session. Creating a new lip shape and size can take several appointments. The type of filler used will depend on your aesthetic goals as they vary in thickness and consistency. There are several filler types that allow for ultimate precision and control of the lip filler shape, size and volume.

CHIN/CHEEK/JAWLINE FILLERS

Thicker consistency fillers can redefine chin, cheeks and jawline. For example, Radiesse is a filler that is made of phosphate and calcium, both naturally occurring substances within the body. The filler is longer lasting than hyaluronic acid and can be more suitable for shaping the cheek, chin and jaw, or filling moderate to severe folds like the nasolabial lines.

TEAR TROUGH FILLER

Tear trough deformity refers to the dark hollow under the eyes and occurs due to ageing, sun damage or genetics. Lifestyle and external factors can make their appearance worse. As we age, fat levels dissipate, causing the fat pads to migrate to the midface. This redistribution of fat, in addition to a loss of elasticity and thinning of the skin make tear troughs more visible. Dark circles are a common complaint, and tear trough fillers will replace the lost volume for a smoother contour as well as alleviating some of the darkness.

NOSE FILLER

Some fillers are cohesive fillers that can act as a scaffolding to subtly lift the skin and restore volume. Due to its restructuring ability, they are also effective for reshaping the nose.

Approximately 15-30 minutes, depending on the number of areas. Numbing cream will require an additional 20 minutes to apply before treatment.

- What are the risks?

You may experience redness, bruising and swelling following your treatment which should subside within 1-3 days.

Filler dissolves naturally over time. We will discuss the associated risks and side effects with you during your consultation.

Other side effects and risks include:

  • Pain

  • Tenderness

  • Firmness, lumps and bumps – lumps and bumps can often be massaged out and will settle within a week or two of treatment. If the bumps remain, you may desire to have the bump dissolved.

  • Itching

  • Dryness – relatively common after lip fillers.

  • Tyndall effect causes a blue tinge that is visible through the skin and can occur as a complication of tear trough fillers. This effect is more likely to present itself if the patient has particularly thin skin, or if the filler is placed too superficially under the skin.

  • Blindness- It’s more likely to occur when injected into areas like the nose.

  • Tissue death – More likely to in injectable areas like the nasolobial folds or nose.

  • Scarring

  • Scabbing

  • Infection

- How long will it last?

Dermal fillers are non-permanent with results lasting between 4-9 months depending on your metabolism and the type of filler. Lip fillers tend to break down slightly faster, lasting between 3-6 months. Some filler types offer more permanency, lasting up to a year. Longevity varies from patient to patient.

- What is the downtime?

You may experience swelling and bruising around the injection site which should subside with a week.

- Are they dissolvable?

Hyaluronic acid fillers are dissolvable with hyaluronidase (Hyalase).

- Is it painful?

The lips are one of the most sensitive areas when it comes to fillers, though many patients report the sensation as a mild discomfort. Pain is subjective, though we can apply a topical numbing cream before treatment to minimise discomfort. Juvéderm and Restylane contain Lidocaine which will reduce the sensation.

- Can I have them if I am pregnant?

We do not advise treatment for pregnant women or women that are breastfeeding as the effects are unknown. You should also avoid the treatment if you have a history of severe allergies or anaphylaxis.
